Scott Donaton is Chief Marketing & Content Officer of VersusGame, overseeing all marketing and editorial functions for the media and technology company, including brand strategy, communications, content marketing, social media and consumer insights.
VersusGame’s proprietary AI technology gamifies content across entertainment, sports, news, social and search sites and apps, driving engagement, retention & revenue for such partners as The Walt Disney Co., Microsoft, NFL, USA Today and Spin.
An innovative marketing and media executive, Donaton was previously CMO at Hulu, where he oversaw a team of 230 people responsible for growth, brand and partner marketing. During his tenure, Hulu grew from 30 million to 48 million paid subscribers. He introduced the streaming industry’s first branded entertainment practice and executive produced One Killer Question, the Emmy-winning companion series to Only Murders in the Building.
Prior to Hulu, Donaton served as Global Chief Creative & Content Officer at Digitas, leading the agency's worldwide creative practice including campaigns, branded content, experience design and production.
Before joining Digitas, Donaton was Global Chief Content Officer at Interpublic Group’s UM and head of UM Studios, where he led a team of award-winning content strategists and producers who developed creative programs and innovative experiences for clients including Chrysler, J&J, BMW and Sony.
Earlier in his career, Donaton was Publisher of Entertainment Weekly and before that Editor & Publisher of Advertising Age. Donaton coined the phrase “Madison & Vine” to represent the convergence of brand marketing & entertainment and is the author of an acclaimed book by the same name.
Donaton has won awards from the Producers Guild of America, Cannes Lions, Clios, D&AD and London International Advertising Awards. He was inducted into the prestigious Advertising Hall of Achievement and named by Variety as a leading entertainment marketing executive.
Donaton currently serves on the Board of Directors of NPR.
