Derek Cianfrance is a filmmaker who most recently directed, wrote and executive produced I Know This Much Is True, an HBO limited series starring Mark Ruffalo in the Emmy-winning lead role. He also co-wrote and executive produced The Sound of Metal starring Riz Ahmed and Olivia Cook, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Derek’s previous films include The Light Between Oceans - an adaptation of M.L Steadman’s New YorkTimes bestseller starring Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz, The Place Beyond The Pines - starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes, and Blue Valentine - starring Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling in roles for which Gosling was nominated for a Golden Globe and Williams was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. In addition to his films, Derek has been celebrated for his documentary work on subjects such as Mos Def, Run-DMC as well as his high-profile commercial work, for which he was awarded the DGA’s Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials in 2016. Derek is currently in production on his newest feature, ROOFMAN, starring Channing Tatum. Derek lives in Brooklyn with his wife, artist Shannon Plumb and their two sons.
