Be Electric

Virtual Production Supervisor

Justin Lee is a seasoned Virtual Production Supervisor at Be Electric Studios, where he leads the studio’s groundbreaking work across two LED volumes. His engineering roots inform every frame he creates. A Biomedical Engineering graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Justin cut his teeth in the Camera, Electric, and Grip departments before rising to lead those teams as a Cinematographer. Over 15 years in the field, he has earned a reputation for pushing the limits of cinematography through deft technological innovation.

At Be Electric, Justin pioneered a real-time DMX lighting control workflow that integrates on-set lighting design with live color-timing and dynamic effects. He also spearheaded the studio’s virtual production car process, enabling immersive, photoreal vehicle shoots without leaving the stage. Drawing on a broad network of exceptional collaborators, he continues to refine a virtual production system that seamlessly marries digital and practical worlds. In 2022, he was named an Epic Games ICVFX Fellow, a prestigious honor recognizing his innovation in in-camera VFX using Unreal Engine.

Justin’s diverse oeuvre spans fine-art photography—most notably Gregory Crewdson’s Cathedral of the Pines—and high-impact commercial campaigns for brands such as Mack Weldon, Blueland, Makespace, and Drizly. His blend of engineering precision and creative vision, combined with a collaborative spirit, has made him a leader in the field—advancing virtual production as an accessible, effective tool for storytellers of all kinds.
