Sergio Fuentes is Director and Head of Creative Industries at Mexico's Ministry of Economy, where he leads national strategies to strengthen the creative economy as a driver of economic growth, innovation, exports, and investment attraction.

He holds a degree in International Relations from Universidad Iberoamericana. His career has been built at the intersection of public policy, international cooperation, and economic development, connecting government, industry, and global markets to create new opportunities for creative sectors, including film and television, digital media, design, gaming, and cultural industries.

At the Ministry of Economy, Sergio has led efforts to attract investment into Mexico's audiovisual sector, forge international partnerships, and develop creative ecosystems nationwide. His work contributed to landmark industry milestones, including Netflix's commitment to invest US$1 billion in content production in Mexico, further reinforcing the country's standing as one of the world's leading audiovisual production hubs. He is also active in developing new incentive mechanisms and international cooperation initiatives designed to increase production activity, strengthen local supply chains, and expand opportunities for creative talent across Mexico.

Sergio also oversaw the creation of Mercado Creativo Digital, a national platform developed in partnership with Mexico's Center for Digital Culture. The platform connects creative professionals, entrepreneurs, companies, and institutions, facilitating business opportunities, talent discovery, and access to resources that strengthen the country's creative economy.
