On Saturday, February 28, members of the AICP West Board volunteered at the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles. Organized by the West Board’s Sustainability and Social Impact Committee, the group spent the day preparing and cooking meals for the center’s community. Founded in 1978, the Downtown Women’s Center was the first provider of permanent supportive housing for women in the United States. Today, the organization continues to support women through housing, health and wellness services, job readiness programs, and daily meals. The volunteer effort, supported by AICP members, marks what the committee hopes will be the first of many opportunities for the board to give back to the community.
"I wanted to do this because I believe we in the AICP need to create community beyond that which we do for a living,” says Sean French, President of Versatile Studios. "Creating and sharing content with the world is a gift we all get to experience. And we are very blessed. I wanted to share our blessings with those in need. The world needs it right now more than ever."
The AICP West Board Social Impact and Sustainability Committee focuses on creating meaningful, positive impact in communities locally and globally. If you’re interested in participating, or want to know about opportunities, please reach out to the West Board by contacting info@aicp.com.
