Henry-Alex Rubin is half French and grew up in New York and Paris. His first feature Murderball won Sundance and was nominated for an Academy Award. Rubin has directed two fiction films (Disconnect, Semper Fi) and has become one of the most awarded directors in the commercial world, amassing over 100 Cannes Lions, 40 Pencils, 22 AICP awards, 44 Clios (3 Grand Clios), 6 Emmy nominations for Best Commercial with 2 wins.
Known in the ad world for his naturalism and ability to capture genuine emotion, Rubin’s work spans from dozens of Super Bowl ads, including several for Budweiser’s Clydesdales, to seven anti-gun violence PSAs for the Sandy Hook Promise. The last of which won the Clio and the Inaugural Storytelling for Good Award at Sundance – the first ad award to be presented by a major international film festival.
Recently, his film “The Cost of Beauty” for Dove earned him an Emmy nomination for Best Commercial as well as a CICLOPE, and his Apple spot about a father using AirPods as a hearing aid was retweeted by millions, including Eric Schmidt and Tim Cook.
Rubin's first job was picking gum off the floor of a suburban movie theater.
